Guildmaster Nominations - April 2022

Nomination
  • Nominations will open from NOW until 23:59 GMT on Saturday 30th April 2022
  • Only SELF NOMINATIONS will be accepted.
  • Current GM's MAY nominate themselves for another term.
  • Players may nominate themselves for one guild only.
  • To be eligible to nominate, player characters must have been created PRIOR to April 1st 2022.
  • The nominations should be posted in reply to THIS THREAD.
  • The nomination process should be considered an out of character activity, running mates may be declared at this time who will serve as GL and interim GM in your absence.
  • Players should post on this thread and detail why they are best suited for the position.
  • Nominees should consider detailing the following:
    • What changes and improvements they wish to drive forward for the guild.
    • How they intend to enhance roleplay within the guild.
    • How they will strengthen inter-guild relationships.
    • Anything else that may help their campaign.
  • If A guild does not receive any nominations from members then an appropriate Staff Hero will take place of interim GM until a time where a suitable full time GM can be put in place.
Voting
  • In the event of a guild receiving only a single nomination, that candidate will become GM by default.
  • After the nominations close, voting will take place and be completed by 23:59 GMT on Saturday 7th May 2022.
  • Voting will be open for PLAYERS to choose their GM. Players who have been nominated MAY vote for themselves.
  • To be eligible to vote, player characters must have been created PRIOR to 1st April 2022. Only ONE VOTE PER GUILD PER PLAYER will be allowed
  • Voting will take place in the guild-specific voting thread.
  • Character email address must match your forum email address in order to vote.
  • In the event of a tie, Admin will provide the tie breaking vote.
  • During the voting period, players may participate in public voting/discussion for the candidates in the guild-specific voting threads.
  • After voting has completed, the results will be announced in each guild-specific nomination thread.

  • Be capable of putting time and effort into the game for a minimum of 6 months.

August 2021 Content Update

On the Moorgate market place Cosrin's site supervisor steps up, looks around and raises her hand to demand silence:

"Under the direction of Mages' Guildmaster Doc we have planned, designed and constructed the building of Mages' Guild Hall of Legendary Majik for the highest levels of mages to study and learn in. The brickwork is done so far. Necessary contracts for interior design have been signed, part of that work is already underway.

The Executive Suite has confirmed that the positions for tutors have been publicly advertised, and applicants for positions are currently interviewed. We will keep you posted."


The supervisor hands the speaking tube to a bulky stonemason who hesitantly steps up, coughs and clears his throat.

"Ahem, I'm here on behalf of all da stone cutters, masons, diggers, pitmen an' miners dat work under me direction in da underground areas of the Isle of Bequin. Fer all who don't know yet, dat's an island to da North of Cosrin. Da mines an' caverns an' grottos have already been hewn out an' need some more fine-tuning. Now an' then we run across odd novel critters dat don't seem to feel quite at home yet, but there have been sightings of their kiddos already, so... give dat time.

Unfortunately, we had to mourn some losses as well, not all of da novel creatures take it well when we happen to stumble into da many lairs they retreated to. But dat's a risk we have to live with, we are workers, not adventurers or warriors. But da villagers on da surface of dat island are friendly, an' provide us with lotsa fresh food an' yummy drinks. An' just yesterday I came across a group of capable healers dat arrived to stay on Bequin, so dat sounds good to me. An' there's dat odd stranger with his antique suitcase of mysterious items he won't show to us. 'Eadgar', he says, 'ya gotta be patient', he says. Weird guy, really.

Ah well, dat's it fer now, time fer me to get back to dat island."


The supervisor and the stonemason whisper a few words to each other, then the supervisor nods her head and turns to the crowd again:

"I just received word that another contract has been agreed upon and signed which concerns the Fighters' Guild. There will be structural work for maintenance purposes. For their own safety, some tutors and shop vendors might temporarily be evacuated and may enjoy an expanded vacation time.

Lately, we also have been negotiating contracts with new and better suppliers for higher quality forging materials. Until those new contracts are signed and effective, we will be selling whatever we still have in guild storage. We will notify you of any changes regarding our guild forging.

Monks' and Rogues' Guild are supposed to be updated and modernised in the near future as well, but the plans and contracts are still negotiated.

'The only thing constant is change', as an old saying goes. A lot of things are currently in flux, there are interesting times ahead for all of us."


With that the supervisor steps back, nods curtly to the stonemason and leaves the marketplace, the stonemason following shortly thereafter. Several scribes mount their steeds to deliver the news to various other places.

Items in general
• Some existing items have more descriptive and unique names (like firebird => majestic firebird)
• Be aware that changes in item names might affect your macros. Check your backpack for the current item names and adjust your macros accordingly. (also see "Mostly invisible to you as a player" below)


Quests
• A lot of formerly unnamed quests are now more readily visible. These have been detailed below

Isle of Bequin (not yet open)
• All Bequin areas are mapped and rooms coded, the island now contains the mountains and several mountain plateaus, some villages, a glade with a lake and a waterfall, a sunken town, a mining level in the mountains and two more, even deeper catacombs. A lot of rooms have descriptions already, some have examinables as well.
• A small port for travel will be added in the future.
• All Bequin areas combined now have more than 100 new monsters assigned, including several new lair critters, though most monsters still need stats added.
• Several existing quest strings will continue on Bequin, others will start there - once Bequin is open.

Orc Town
• Formerly secretly opened exits in other rooms now trigger a text for the player.

Crag Tower
• Some exit bugs were fixed.

Guilds in general:
• Guildownership & guild level requirements were added to a lot of guild items.

Mages Guild
• The old relic of Val'istar will vanish, new, upgradable relics of Val'istar will be available in shops in the future GR 150-300 area.
• In the Coven, burnt cauldrons are less likely to happen.
• Serenity has easier access to some shops.
• Work on the new GR 150-300 has begun with the help of Mages' Guildmaster Doc.
• All areas (except for the access area) are mapped and rooms coded, most have room descriptions, some have examinables as well. There will be some old and a bunch of new items to discover for roleplay and questing, as well as new clothing and other magely items.
• We've been working on filling the area with several dozen interesting friendlies and monsters, including several lair critters, though we haven't assigned any stats yet.
• Guild quests will be done in coordination with the other guilds.
• Animal caretakers were found still caring for the mounts within the Stormport Arcane Masters' Guild. These caretakers and their mounts have been relocated and welcomed into the Moorgate Mages' Guild

Fighters' Guild
• Guild shops now contain a few readily forged weapons as well.
• Animal caretakers were found still looking after the mounts within the Stormport Privateers' Guild. These caretakers and their mounts have been relocated and welcomed into the Moorgate Fighters' Guild

Mostly invisible to you as a player
• Lots of cleaning up in the background:
• Codenames were streamlined to make staff work easier.
• Redundant and outdated monsters and items were (marked to be) slagged to make room for new monsters and items. Items are -not yet- slagged, they might be slightly renamed though for an ongoing bigger project.
• A bunch of typos, wrong spelling, bad grammar, missing punctuation, and other bugs squished.
• Some monsters have more detailed names to distinguish between different subspecies living in different areas. Please consider that in your hunting procedures, and start hunting with caution at first. (also see "Items in general" above) This will be an ongoing work.

HIDDEN QUESTS
These quests were previously not visible and have now been made visible
• A rusted chest is now visible on the causeway that offers a quest.
• A Wise Old Sage was missing from the east causeway. He has returned and offers his quest once more.
• A tangled tree needs the help of brave adventurers in Dead Moorgate.
• The mummified remains of an adventurer have been blessed with Cadaver Converse and now offer a quest inside an old abandoned house in Stormport.
• An old woman has been spotted wandering around in the freezing snow in Thunder Falls.
• A frozen skeleton has been found locked under the ice in Dark Blizzard Pass.
• A disgruntled Hill Giant Shaman is unhappy about something in the Hill Giant Lair.
• A strange spike is sticking out of a wall on Crag Tower.
• A statue needs some TLC in the Troll Caves.
• An iron tripod sits in the southeastern guard tower for adventurers to use... If they have the correct item.
• A cracked channel in Dead Moorgate oozes some foul liquid that requires further investigation.
• A dusty old skull looks different from the rest in Dead Sewers.
• Mousee has been spotted scurrying in and around the Moorgate and Stormport Bounty Offices.
• A Lizardman Scientist needs your help in the Lizard Laboratory.
• A Janitor is unable to sweep up the mess left in the Moorgate Cotton and Dye Works.
• There's something not quite right about The Watchman in Moorgate Cotton and Dye Works...
• A blue marble altar can help you reach enlightenment in the Monks Guild.
• A small Elf Girl is very cold at Lookout Point.
• A strange goo appears inside a live oak tree.....ew!
• Damp moss fills a cavern within the Catacombs Level 1.
• A warrior's grave marks the final resting place of a brave adventurer in Ashwood Forest.
• Some questionable cave paintings have been spotted on the walls within the Troll Caves.
• A sad little boy wanders the forest train in Ashwood Forest.
• An old man trying to hide in the shadows rambles at random passers-by in Moorgate.
• A man with an odd-looking kite can't get it up in Barh-Kul.
• An old woman and her puppy greet passing adventurers in Barh-Kul.
• A terrified little elf needs the expert help of Monks Guild and Serenity Subguild members.
• A poorly squirrel lies on the path within the Graveyard. Poor little thing doesn't look like it will last the winter...
• A large hole has appeared in the ruins of the Moorgate Fortress and a street on Moorgate, watch that you don't fall in!
• A gaunt-looking old man requires the services of a mighty adventurer in Serenity Forest.
• Chunks of stone have fallen around the base of the Lighthouse.
• Some nefarious sorts have bound and gagged the Lighthouse keeper! How dare they?!
• The nefarious sorts who bound and gagged the Lighthouse keeper also broke the Lighthouse Lens!
• A washed out bridge is in dire need of repair in Evermarsh.
• A man in a smart suit is keeping an eye on people inside the Rogues Guild.
• A slippery hill is proving a challenge for ill prepared advantuerers in Charon's Level 1.
• A vegetable garden has lots of nice ripe veggies growing in the Cottley Mounds.
• A teeny tiny door in the Cottley Mounds is set into the brickwork of a wall.
• A delicate mosaic has been damaged in the Labyrinth.
• A small crack has appeared in the Labyrinth's Wester Wall - it feels very hot to the touch!
• A very strange, uneven hole has appeared in a wall within Catacombs Level 3.
• A little lizard girl has been spotted wandering Catacombs Level 3.

Engine Change 3.0 Patch Notes - Live Feb 1st 2020

We have updated the test server to version 3.0 of the Cosrin Engine. If you would like to access the test server, please ensure you are using the latest client from https://www.cosrintwo.com/downloads - Version 513 is the latest version as of this post. Please backup your /users/USERNAME/documents/OGC folder to ensure that no settings are lost when installing the new client.

Once installed you can make a copy of the shortcut on the desktop, right click > properties > target > change the last part of this field from -COSRIN2 to -COSRIN2QA
This will connect to the TEST server.

There has been a change in how passwords are encrypted and this means all text in the passwords have been converted to uppercase letters so if your password doesn't work on test, please try changing all letters to capitals. You may change your password using the PASSWORD command once in game and it will retain case sensitivity. Please be aware that any update or reboot of the test server may require you to enter your original, uppercase, password.

  • Game data is now stored using a SQL database
  • Password encryption has been strenghtened
  • Passwords can now be up to 70 characters in length
  • There are now additional checks carried out on logon which may lead to a slight delay but increase account security
  • Players can now add an additional two lines of descriptions using the description3 and description4 commands
  • HP and SP gains will now continue until max level
  • Current players who are over level 50 will have their HP and SP increased to take the new changes into account
  • The base chance for good things to happen when you have a subscription to Cosrin : A New Dawn has been increased to 50%
  • The PERKS command now displays your current bonus for subscribers as well as your veteran rank + veteran bonus
  • Items now have the ability to have Land, City, Guild and Temple level restrictions placed on them
  • Trying to use or equip an item when you do not meet the requirements will result in none of the item benefits being applied - Weapons will not be usable (You will use empty hands to attack) and no armour bonuses will be received from armour
  • A warning message is displayed when you HOLD an item that "while you can hold the item, you will gain no benefit from it" if you do not meet the level requirements
  • Dying whilst on a flying mount should no longer cause you to lose the flying ability
  • Dying whilst being a race that can fly and be flying should no longer cause you to lose the flying ability.
  • Quests now have the ability to reward players with additional stable slots
  • Characters now only have 1 guildvote that they may cast per vote
  • If another player casts a spell and you know that spell, you will now know what they were casting
  • If another players spell fizzles and you know that spell, you will still not know what they were trying to cast because they messed it up
  • A bug has been fixed which allowed players who were above the "max level for EXP" range to still gather EXP from monsters in certain circumstances
  • Typos have been fixed in the STUN and WEB weapon enchantments trigger text
  • A whole load of other bugs have been squished in the process

This item was never intended to be distributed to players and will be removed in the next update.

Hi Martiner,

Thanks for your post, I'll address the concerns you have raised:

Cosrin: A New Dawn is still wholly owned and operated by OGC. The game Admin (Myself) is a volunteer role and Development is carried out by OGC staff. I can make requests for development to OGC and they can implement changes that will benefit the overall system (i.e - improvements to the engine that do not effect core game mechanics)

OGC are committed to keeping Cosrin: A New Dawn operating for the foreseeable future. As far as I am aware the operating costs are minimal. If, for whatever reason, this stance changes. I will endeavor to work with players, staff and OGC to keep Cosrin: A New Dawn operating.

There has been no discussion regarding transfer of IP to a third party that I am aware of.

I can assure you that there is a robust backup and disaster recovery plan in place.

I hope this is of some comfort.

Cosrin Community Wiki - Relocated

Greetings.

Since I received notice that the current owner of the Cosrin Community Wiki was shutting down the project, I have tried every avenue possible to contact them in an effort to move the wiki to a more permanent home.

Unfortunately all my communications were met with silence, whether the email addresses are no longer monitored or incorrect, I don't know.

Anyway. I have attempted to download and collect all material on the current wiki and have uploaded the information to a new location. You can find the new Cosrin Community Wiki here : http://cosrin.wikia.com/

Please let me know if anything is missing and also feel free to contribute.

June 2018 - Engine Change 2.5.1 - Bug Fixes

  • A critical bug was fixed and deployed in an emergency patch earlier in May where players were unable to drop items
  • Changed the colour of the attack string to show damage as YELLOW similar to how spell damage is represented
  • The bugs affecting the ranking tables should now be resolved
  • Clan Assistants should no longer be able to fire Clan Leaders
  • The NSU spell cap has been removed - NSU spells should now be limited by the casters abilities and expertise rather than the receivers level
  • Changes have been made to the tools available to staff for world creation
  • Background changes have been made to make the engine more efficient

May 2018 - 2.5 Engine Update

The following updates have been applied, today Sunday 20th of May 2018
  • EXP Loss on death has been changed from a blanket 15% to the following 0-24.99% DOWN TO 0% , 25% - 54.99% DOWN TO 20%, 55% - 74.55% DOWN TO 50%, 75%+ DOWN TO 70%
  • Characters with an active subscription now have a 50% chance of not losing ANY exp or gold on death. Also an increased chance of other surprise subscription benefits. This has been significantly increased from its previous levels.
  • Quests now show how many times they can be completed.
  • When attacking a monster using anything other than spells, the amount of damage shown AFTER armour reduction is now shown.
  • World Rankings now only show players who have logged into the game within the last 90(ish) days.
  • It is now possible to switch mounts while both mounted and leading another without having to stable one or move it to your hand first.
  • A bug causing some caret codes to appear in non-OGC clients has been fed to Murielle. Caret codes should no longer be visible in other clients.
  • A large number of typos were fixed in assassination emotes.
  • Players logging into a full Healing Shrine should now be moved onto the street instead of the starter area.
  • A typo has been fixed in the GS, titles and subguildtitles command where the text "You are a member of......" was missing the 'a'.
  • Undroppable items are no longer able to be placed into the guildlocker.
  • HELP INDEX <text> will now auto generate a list of ALL help files in game. (e.g - HELP INDEX A ).
  • HELP EMOTE LIST will now display all emotes in the game.
  • HELP EMOTE LIST <LETTER> will now display all emotes in the game beginning with that letter.
  • A bug causing items being reduced to 0 cost via the barter skill has been fed to Murielle. This also had the effect of these items and free items costing 999999 gold. They are now free).
  • The GUILDSUMMON command no longer works on dead characters. This prevents players being stuck in their guild who wished to be resurrected.
  • The WISH command will now show you the wish you have sent.
  • The Pending wish will now show to staff correctly instead of "Player has a wish (pending)" forcing staff to ask you to resend your wish.
  • The GROUP command will now list yourself in the group list.
  • Group spells will now target your entire group, whether you are the leader or not (EXCEPT Group Teleport - You must be leading the group for this to work).
  • The command QUESTRANK has been added to the game. This lists top 15 players by number of quests completed.
  • The command KILLRANK has been added to the game. This lists the top 15 players by number of species killed.
  • It should no longer be possible to send an empty shout, guild shout, temple shout, clan shout, wail, chat or say.
  • It is now possible to DEPOSIT ALL to deposit every piece of gold in hand into the bank.
  • WHO now displays highest concurrent players ever online.
  • Various player spells that do not affect yourself no longer display while concentrating.
  • When purchasing from a shop, if gold is used from hand AND bank, a message now displays showing how much gold is used from the bank.
  • Staff are no longer outed as invisible if they discover a secret or hidden exit.
  • It is now possible to examine an item another player is holding or wearing. EX PLAYER <itemname> (includes both hands, jewllery and armour).
  • Updated the EXAMINE function so you can examine your items items in hand, armour, jewellery and backpack, keys and pouch without having to HOLD them first.
  • DESCRIBING an item at a shop will now show the same information as EXAMINING one, this now allows you to see if a weapon is a OHW/THW/MW etc or Piercing/Slashing/Bashing weapon
  • SPELLS command now displays spells grouped by SPELL TYPE - SSU/NSU/MSU and Group Spells
  • All ranking tables should now update on player login instead of having to have something happen to force a change (gain exp, for example)

May 2018 - 2.6.1 Content Update

  • A number of typos have been fixed throughout the world including those within rooms, events, quests and items.
  • A number of room descriptions in Crag Tower have been modified, fixed and made a little more interesting.
  • A number of player-triggered events within Crag Tower have had text modified, fixed and made a little more interesting.
  • A number of events throughout the world have had additional text added to give better clues about Crag Tower.
  • The Giant Red Dragon has had a considerable increase in Hit Points.
  • The Giant Red Dragon has remembered how to breathe fire!
  • The Giant Red Dragon has remembered he is supposed to guard an area of Crag Tower and now spawns correctly
  • A quest has been added for coven members to earn the coveted Shadow Dragon
  • Work continues in the background on other projects
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Murielle back onto the Cosrin Team. Her work on fixing and buffing Crag Tower has been invaluable. We hope that the rewards the players receive when they finally crack it, is worth it.

  • A number of monsters have been tweaked in Aether Lake in an attempt to make solo hunting this area possible, but difficult. You might not be able to script hunt this area as easily as other areas. Please tread with caution.
  • A number of events have been added and others have been tweaked in Crag Tower area
  • A number of events have had their chance to trigger increased
  • A number of typos have been fixed in Crag Tower
  • The final quests for Crag Tower now have a level 130 portal in front of them
  • The rewards for completing the final Crag Tower quests have been substantially increased. This should reflect the blood, sweat, tears and cobwebs involved in getting to them
  • Drop rates for some items dropped by monsters have been increased in Crag Tower

  • The Fighters' Guild has had an additional armour shop added in the GR150 portal.
  • The monster Tired three-headed hellhound has had its level reduced from 300 to 75 and should now be killable by mortals.
  • A number of Rogue's Guild weapons have had their attack emotes fixed.
  • Thanks to the feats of some adventurers, Robyn of the Hood has been rescued from Dead Moorgate and returned to the Rogue's Guild entrance.
  • The item Dragon Head Cane was listed as a Two-Handed Weapon but described as a One-Handed Weapon - Changed to OHW.
  • The monster Sirrush has had it's drop rate slightly increased for one of its loot items.
  • A level 50 portal was removed from Misty Vales as there was another route around it.

December 2017 Content Update

The following content changes have been made for Cosrin: A New Dawn:
  • Strongboxes have had their strength requirement removed
  • A room emote has been added that will activate when the lair of the Head of Research is opened by another player in the same room.
  • A number of items that can be spawned on demand have had their resale value set to 0 to prevent potential abuse
  • A number of HELP FILES have been updated to remove old world references - This is an ongoing project
  • A number of HELP FILES have been updated regarding spellcasting to reflect BASE SPELL COST - This is an ongoing project
  • A number of EMOTES have been updated to remove old world references. This is an ongoing project
  • The Golden Sickle dropped by Gridget Sprite of War is no longer single session but you can only carry one at a time.
  • Fixed a bug where Skydancers Tribe clan room emotes and NPC's were appearing at the entrance to the Spirits Of The Night clan. The room should now display Spirits Of The Night specific emotes and spawn their NPC's.
  • Fixed an issue where the tavern within Bitterpoint Valley was not granting the buffs associated with taverns
  • An event near the volcano in the labyrinth would trigger if the player was NOT HOLDING the required item. this has now been changed to only trigger if the player is NOT WEARING the required item which also includes holding.

Fighter Guild Changes
  • Ishamael the Metalworker has acquired a new inventory of items
  • Portal, Worker of Armour has acquired a new inventory of items
  • KranzzT KrackTurr has acquired a new inventory of items
  • The shop behind KranzzT has been closed for refurbishment
  • Each subguild has had a delivery of Expert Armour Applicators
  • All forging items within the base guild should work as intended. Subguild items still need work
  • Some subguild shops have melted down all their old items which were not being used anymore
  • A new set of shops have been opened at the GR110 portal
  • Behind the scenes work on items to be introduced in a future update

Mage Guild Changes
  • Daemon's Blood Dagger name has been changed to Demon's Blood Dagger. Description also updated with correct spelling.

Monk Guild Changes
  • The Item Sacred Lotus Seed Herb can now spawn on command like other monk herbs and is no longer restricted to carrying one at a time.

Rogue Guild Changes
  • A quest has been added to the guild that rewards players with the coveted Layered Shield

Guildmaster Election Results

The Fighters Guild had one nomination, Halren remains Fighters Guildmaster.

The Mages Guild had one nomination, Marcus is the new Mages Guildmaster.

The Monks Guild had one nomination, Herman is the new Monks Guildmaster.

The Rogues Guild had two nominationson, Karli is the new Rogues Guildmaster. Livewire retracted his nomination.

Congratulations to you all. I'll be in contact with the incoming Guildmasters soon to discuss your new found status.
