Moorgate Sparring Competition Guidelines

These rules are being posted for those who are curious/want to follow along with the math during the upcoming Moorgate Sparring Competition. It is not necessary to know this to participate in the competition. These numbers will be calculated for you by the staff assisting with the event, and you will be told the outcome. You can then base your roleplay moving forward on this information.

The Official Rules for the Sparring Competition will be as follows:
  • Each player gets 20 “HP” per round
  • Both players will roll a D2 for initiative at the start of each round
  • Players will roll a D20 to determine if they hit their opponent and how severe the hit is
    • 19, 20 = Critical Hit (roll D10+4)
    • 15, 16, 17, 18 = High Damage (roll D10)
    • 11, 12, 13, 14 = Medium Damage (roll D6)
    • 7, 8, 9, 10 = Low Damage (roll D3)
    • 3, 4, 5, 6 = Miss
    • 1, 2 = Critical Fumble (self damage - roll D6)
  • If a player is hit, they have the chance to try to block the hit. They must roll a D6:
    • 1-3 = Unable to block
    • 4-6 = Block
    • If a player is successful at blocking, they will then roll a die based on damage range being done and that amount will be negated.
