RP101 Guide: The What, Why, and How

Post by Grimtusk » August 18th, 2013, 11:36 pm

After that incident on chats regarding roleplay, Tilius asked for some resources on good roleplay etiquette. I don't claim to be a good roleplayer but I've done my fair share of reading on the subject and I know a particularly good resource that ought to be read by all roleplayers, especially those who are new to it: the RP101 series. It was written by the owner of an RP-enforced MUD, Wes Platt, and it's a must-read.

Part 1: Roll-playing vs. Roleplaying
Part 2: Taking the Stage
Part 3: Tree of Knowledge
Part 4: Persistence of Action and Space
Part 5: Proper Table Manners
Part 6: Staying In the Moment

If you're new to RPing or need convincing on why you should start RPing, read parts 1 and 2. For proper RP etiquette, read parts 3 through 6. That said, I recommend the full read regardless of how much of an RP veteran you are because it's never too early to have a refresher / reminder of what good RP should be.
